Motorist survives 100-foot fall off H-3 freeway

Fire personnel this afternoon rescued a woman who survived a 100-foot fall over a guardrail of the H-3 freeway between the Harano Tunnels after a one car crash, according to fire Capt. David Jenkins.

Jenkins said the woman’s car was involved in the accident on the Kaneohe-bound lanes of the freeway; the woman got out of the car and fell over the guardrail, he said.

Firefighters were summoned at 5:40 p.m.

Firefighters were able to talk with the woman and she was able to direct personnel to hike to her location by 6:12 p.m., Jenkins said.

The woman fell about 100 feet, he said. What caused her to fall wasn’t available.

“She was alert and able to speak with personnel and reported that she fell from the highway approximately two hours prior,” Jenkins said.

The patient was stabilized, treated for her injuries, hoisted back up to the freeway, and transferred to Emergency Medical Services personnel.

Would HSA be kind enough to inform us how she got her sorry arises in that spot? Taking pictures? Lost balance on a motorcycle? Suicide attempt in the wrong part of the Pali?

This mornings news report is a bigger improvement over yesterday’s initial report. Might the emergency crew on not finding the driver just thought she ran away, towed the car, and went home for the day leaving the victim to die and be found 6 months later by hikers? How did they discover her down there? Was she conscious enough to yell out her location? I don’t think she was stupid to fall over the edge. Car accidents can make you confused and suffer vertigo. Very very lucky she is rescued to live another day. HPD, emergency services, and HFD did good yesterday.

lokela, agree. That’s what happens sometimes, when you get into an accident or fall. People walk off cliffs or wander directly into traffic.
