Drew Iida, 6, is recovering from a head injury after having a seizure at a Pop Warner football practice in October.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and former University of Hawaii quarterback Bryant Moniz will sign autographs and pose for photos Thursday to raise money for medical costs for a 6-year-old Kaneohe boy who was injured while playing Pop Warner football in October.

Drew Iida was 5 years old when he stumbled, fell and had a seizure at his Pop Warner football practice on Oct. 1. He is recovering at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, his family said in a news release.

Drew has made some progress, and the family remains hopeful, said his mother, Sheri Iida.

“Drew had a closed brain injury,” Sheri Iida said. “We are unsure what caused the initial bleeding in his brain, but we do know that the bleeding caused a lot of trauma to his brain and that is what he is fighting to recover from now.

“We are not sure how long he will need to stay in Arizona. We will stay as long as he makes progress or till he is well enough to go home.”

The fundraiser will be held in the office of Dr. Hugo Higa, Suite 105 (on the ground floor, across from American Savings Bank) of the Pan Am Building, 1600 Kapiolani Blvd., from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Regular parking rates will apply, but metered stalls are available on surrounding streets. The first 250 people in line will receive a ticket for an autograph and photo with Fitzgerald and Moniz. A minimum $25 donation per person is requested. There will be opportunities for those not in line to take photos of Fitzgerald and Moniz.

Sheri Iida and her friends will collect donations at the fundraiser. Donations are also being accepted at any American Savings Bank branch by signifying the donation is for “Pray for Drew,” account No. 8100367887.
