The Kalalau trailhead at Haena State Park on Kauai was closed Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. due to flooding and continued heavy rain, the Department of Land and Natural Resources said.

A determination will be made Thursday morning whether the trail can be reopened. 

Meantime, a brown water advisory for the island has been issued because of storm water runoff from the heavy rains.  The Department of Health is advising the public to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer  manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris.

Radar showed heavy rain from Princeville to Kekaha just before 10 a.m.

Most of this morning’s rain was centered over Kauai and Oahu, where cloudy skies, showers, vog and humid Kona weather are expected to continue through Thursday, National Weather Service forecasters say.

The National Weather Service says we may get sunny skies again Friday and Saturday along with a return of the trade winds. But showers will continue in windward and mauka areas.

Another weather system will bring back the southerly Kona winds and vog Sunday. More showers are also expected through the beginning of the week.

In Central Oahu, where the state girl’s soccer tournament is being held at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex, the forecast calls for showers and haze today and more showers likely through Saturday.

A high surf advisory is in effect for north and west facing shores of Oahu, Kauai County and Molokai and north shores of Maui until 6 a.m. Thursday. North shore surf should decline to 10 to 15 feet tonight and 8 to 12 feet Thursday.

West shores can expect 12 to 18 foot wave faces today, dropping to 8 to 12 feet tonight and 5 to 8 feet on Thursday.
