Forecasters predict rain through the weekend

A band of showers that brought moderate to heavy rain to Kauai this morning is expected to move over Oahu sometime this afternoon.

The showers are ahead of a cold front that will reach the Garden Isle tonight and Oahu tomorrow morning.

National Weather Service forecasters say there is a 90 percent chance of rain on Oahu today and tonight. Showers could be locally heavy.

Forecasters say showers will spread and increase as the front moves over the state and the chance of rain will continue into next week.

Ian Morrison, a forecaster with the National Weather Service, says the cold front is expected to dissipate near Maui and move off to the north.

However, when the usual tradewinds return tomorrow, the winds from the northeast could blow rain clouds associated with the front back over the state.

Another weather system forming near the islands could bring more rain through the early part of next week, Morrison said.
