Hawaii’s national parks and other federal sites are offering free admission Saturday for National Public Lands Day.

Hawaii has eight national parks including Haleakala National Park, Volcanoes National Park and Kalaupapa National Historical Park.

Both the federal and state governments are encouraging volunteers to help maintain park sites Saturday.

At Haleakala, volunteers will embark on a half-day weeding trip to help protect native ecosystems.

In Makiki Valley, volunteers will water and fertilize native Hawaiian plants, install signs, clean up fallen branches and remove weeds.

Free admission also is being offered Saturday at sites run by several other federal government agencies.
