A 19-year-old Hauula man suffered massive head injuries late Monday afternoon after falling out of the bed of a moving pickup truck in Kaaawa.

The 31-year-old Laie man driving the 1994 black Chevy pickup was turning out of a 7-Eleven parking lot at about 5:10 p.m. on Kamehameha Highway, 429 feet west of Hiiaka Road.

As the truck straightened out onto Kamehameha Highway, the passenger, who was sitting on an above-bed tool box, fell out, police said.

Police said the man was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center.

All other occupants of the truck, including a 25-year-old man also riding in the bed of the truck, were uninjured, police said.

Police arrested the driver for allegedly driving without a license.
