Hawaii County police seek information about attempted robbery

Hawaii County police released a sketch of the suspect in an Oct. 31 attempted robbery in Hilo.

Hawaii island police are renewing their request for information about an attempted robbery on Oct. 31 in Hilo.

A 49-year-old Hilo man was walking to his vehicle in the Waiakea Villas about 8 p.m. that day when a man approached, brandished a weapon, and demanded money, police said.

When the victim refused, the man fled. No one was hurt.

The wanted man is described as in his late 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 200 pounds, with a light mustache. He was wearing a black T-shirt, dark shorts, and a cap with the words “BJ Penn.”

Police released a drawing of the man to help generate leads. Anyone who knows the identity of the man or has information on the incident is asked to call police at 935-3311 or Detective Dean Uyetake at 961-2379.
