A south swell is continuing, with another day of waves in the 5- to 8-foot range.
The National Weather Service extended a high surf advisory for south-facing shores of all islands until 6 p.m. Wednesday. The swell arrived late Sunday into Monday and has brought crowds of surfers to south shore beaches.
However, forecasters caution that the strong breaking waves, shore break and dangerous rip currents can make swimming dangerous.
Meanwhile, a flood advisory for Hawaii island expired at 8:15 a.m. when heavy rains moved offshore.
At 5 a.m., radar showed a nearly stationary area of heavy rain near Papaikou, about seven miles northwest of Hilo.
The Honolii Stream and Wailuku River gauges showed water levels running several feet above normal.
