High surf advisory posted for some islands

    Surfers rode the large waves at Waimea Bay on Oahu's North Shore on Thursday.

A high surf advisory has been posted as waves from 12 to 16 feet are expected to hit some shores of Oahu, Kauai and Niihau.

The advisory is in effect through 4 p.m. Saturday and covers the north- and west-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau, and the north shore of Oahu, according to officials at the National Weather Service.

Beachgoers are advised to heed all advice given by ocean safety officials.
