Prosecutors charged a 66-year-old homeless man Wednesday for allegedly stabbing a woman in Kailua.

William Esper was charged with second-degree attempted murder. Bail was set at $200,000.

Honolulu police said the victim, 43, was stabbed with an “edged weapon” at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday on Oneawa Street. Police arrested the suspect 30 minutes later at the crime scene.

Esper has a criminal record, mainly misdemeanor criminal property damage convictions, beginning 1994. His only felony conviction was in 2000 for  second-degree criminal property damage.
