Homeless man accused in brutal Aala Park attack to appear in court

Preliminary hearing for a 58-year-old homeless man with a record of assault and terroristic threatening and charged with killing another homeless man who died after a brutal attack in Aala Park earlier this month will be held in District Court on Wednesday.

Ronald Page entered a plea of not guilty Monday on a charge of second-degree murder in the beating death of Lynn Riley, 49, after an Oct. 1 altercation.

District Court Judge Leslie Hayashi set Page’s preliminary hearing for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. She also confirmed Page’s bail of $250,000.

Three witnesses have told police that they watched Page repeatedly punched Riley in the face, smashed his head into the pavement several times and then kicked the victim as he lay in Aala Park. The two homeless men had been fighting.

Riley was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he died nine days later.

The Medical Examiner’s office determined the cause of death to be “intracranial hemorrhage due to assaultive blunt force trauma to the head” and ruled it to be a homicide.

Page was on probation following a felony conviction in 2011 for second-degree assault, for which he was sentenced to 140 days in jail. Also, Page has several misdemeanor convictions for terroristic threatening and third-degree assault dating back to 2003.
