Canadian scientists detected drug-resistant MRSA bacteria in bedbugs from three hospital patients from a downtrodden Vancouver neighborhood.

The number of bed bug infestation treatments performed by Orkin in Honolulu decreased last year, putting the city at No. 45 on the company’s national bed bug rankings list.

Honolulu’s 45th-place ranking is down eight spots from last year, while Chicago has the disturbing honor of being in first place.

In a statement, Orkin noted that the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance in July requiring condominium associations to have a formal bed bug management plan in place for detection, inspection and treatment of the pests.

The Bed Bug Cities List is prepared by Orkin according to the number of treatments the company performed during a calendar year, compared to the number of treatments performed in the previous calendar year.
