star-advertiser / may 18 The unemployment rate in Hawaii rose to 6.1 percent in July as the economy continued to tread water. Here, job seekers came out for the Workforce Job Fair at the Neal Blaisdell Center.

Employers at Wednesday’s WorkForce job fair at the Blaisdell Center will gather job seeker data using Recpass, a new software tool that uses optical scanning technology to reduce paperwork and the time it takes to record information about applicants.

About 180 employers have signed up for the event, up from 161 the last job fair in January.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $3 general and $1 for students with school ID, seniors 55 and older, and military with ID. There will be 20-minute briefings from featured companies throughout the day.

Alan Wong’s Restaurant, Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii Pacific Health and BAE Systems will be among those companies looking to fill vacancies.

Job seekers can go to www.recpass.com/workforce-job-fair and upload their resumes. At the fair, they can print a badge with a code code that employers can scan to obtain the job seeker’s resume and contact information.
