An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Wednesday charging a 19-year-old Kalihi man in the attempted robbery of a Ward Avenue arcade.

Toutaimana Downer was armed with an object that resembled a firearm when he tried to rob the Winner’z Zone on Thursday and restrained another man during the incident, committing the offenses of first-degree robbery and kidnapping, the indictment said.

Downer, of Ahonui Street, remained at Oahu Community Correctional Center on Wednesday unable to post $100,000 bail.

Police said Downer and an unknown man walked up to Winner’z Zone at 1:56 a.m. Thursday and forced a group of people and the security guard into the business.

Downer’s accomplice pulled out a handgun and told the guard to take him to the safe, police said.

The guard disarmed the gunman, who fled, and detained Downer.
