A 36-year-old man from Kapaa was arrested Wednesday night in connection with a bank robbery earlier in the day.

Kauai police arrested the man for first-degree robbery, and bail has been set at $100,000.

The robbery occurred shortly before 1 p.m. at the Bank of Hawaii on Kuhio Highway, when a male suspect passed a bank teller a note stating that he had a gun and demanded money. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police received a tip shortly after the robbery that the suspect may have been seen near Hauaala Road in Kapaa, continuing their search into the night by questioning bystanders and residents in the Kapaa area.

At about 10:30 p.m., two people told investigating officers they recognized the suspect in surveillance photos. He was located and arrested at his home on Hauaala Road shortly after midnight.
