Kauai police blamed for low turnout at cancer charity event
LIHUE » Organizers of a benefit concert to raise money for cancer treatment say police intimidated attendees by setting up a roadblock barricading the event and checking each car that passed through, ultimately affecting their ability to raise money.
The Garden Island reports attendance at Saturday’s Reggae for Life concert in Koloa was hundreds fewer than expected with less than 50 people. Last year’s concert brought out about 250 people.
Concert organizer Phillip “Angel” White says this year’s event resulted in a $9,000 loss. He says he doesn’t understand why police were outside the event, which offered prize drawings, a rodeo and food vendors.
County spokeswoman Sarah Blane says the Kauai Police Department set up a DUI checkpoint, but that it wasn’t intended specifically for the concert.
No arrests were made.

KPD fighting crime.
They didn’t like the music. It was reggae I think, not Hawaiian.
No arrests were made. KPD = Babooze
actions were preventative, also known as pro-active policing.
Just shows you how much people need to drink or do drugs to enjoy a concert
@ akio – not really. If I had a choice of going through a roadblock or not, I would avoid it too. Unless I had prepaid tickets.
If KPD’s logic is that there might be some intoxicating substances or liquids being dispensed at the venue, that public safety demands they set up a roadblock, then by that logic a roadblock should be set up next to every bar, restaurant or event where alcohol is served.
Actions by police were preventative, kill it before it gets out of hand. They are at Bars at night(outside), it is called selective enforcement, classic police tactics right out of police training academy-national strategy . Looks like Kauai is stepping up in police world.
Was the dui roadblock set up for drivers entering or exiting? If entering, attendance should not be affected much.
If you have nothing to hide why you skaid da road block? If your prescription is legit to burn and you have a D square you GTG! Bunch of LOLOs!
