A four-hour standoff with police ended without incident Thursday night in Kalaheo, Kauai, and the suspect was taken to Wilcox Hospital for a medical evaluation.

No charges have yet been filed against the 51-year-old Kalaheo man,

Police responded to a popular hunting area off Puuwai Road after residents reported hearing yelling and possible gunshots about 8 p.m. Officers located an armed suspect and closed Puuwai Road.

After about four hours of negotiations, police talked the man into surrendering.

Puuwai Road was reopened at around midnight.

Police continue their investigation of this incident.
