Weak trade winds are giving way to southeast Kona winds that will bring vog and muggy conditions to the islands through the weekend.

The National Weather Service says afternoon showers caused by daytime heating are possible in interior and higher elevations.

The forecast for Honolulu calls for hazy skies and a 50 percent chance of showers in the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday.

The haze is likely to linger into Monday morning, but should clear later in the day.

A cold front northwest of Kauai is causing the wind shift. The front is moving closer to the islands, but should dissipate and the cooling northeast trade winds should return Monday, blowing away the vog.
