An 8-year-old Lanai girl was shot in the head Saturday with a pellet gun, Maui police reported Wednesday.

The girl was taken with non-life-threatening injuries to the Lanai Community Clinic, where she was treated and released.

Police are continuing to investigate the case.

Police issued a news release Wednesday but did not specify details about the shooter or whether it was an accidental discharge of the pellet gun by the child.

Maui police remind air gun users to be mindful of their surroundings and to use the guns only in designated areas. Police also say minors should be supervised by a responsible adult when operating an air gun.
