LAS VEGAS — Tourism officials in Las Vegas say the destination welcomed 3.1 million visitors in September, 2 percent more than the same month last year.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said Wednesday that visitation is up 2.4 percent for the first nine months of the year compared with January through September 2009.

The increase is lower than the more than 5 percent increase in the number of available hotel rooms compared with last year. Occupancy in September was down just over 1 percent for more than 148,000 rooms.

The agency that promotes Sin City says average daily room rates were up 6.7 percent for the month and nearly 3 percent for the first nine months of 2010.

Gambling revenues in Clark County are up 1.5 percent to nearly $786 million.
