A 20-year-old military man was critically injured Friday night after he was hit by a van while jaywalking on Ala Moana Boulevard.

Police said the man was seen heading mauka in a crosswalk near Coral Street about 11:10 p.m., but did not have a walk signal and the light was red.

A Honolulu man driving a 1998 Nissan Quest van hit the pedestrian while passing through a green light in the downtown direction, police said. The driver pulled over and waited for police.

Police said the pedestrian sustained major head and body injuries and was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center.

Police said the area was well-lit by street lamps.
