Man dies after losing control of his car near Ko Olina

Speed appears to be a factor in a crash that killed a 35-year-old Waianae man this morning near Ko Olina, police said.

The man was speeding towards Waianae on Farrington Highway about 2 a.m. when he lost control, and his vehicle traveled up an embankment and hit a tree. The man was pronounced dead at the scene near Aliinui Drive.

He was the 22nd traffic fatality this year compared to 27 at this time last year on Oahu.

It’s good that this menace took himself off the roadways. I just hope the tree’s okay.

We need to better our “vetting” process in issuing drivers license! It’s just like having a registered gun and shooting oneself in the head if you ask me

This guy has to be really dumb to get into trouble out there. We can just be glad that he didn’t take anyone else with him on his way to Waianae.

He’s dead. Isn’t that enough for you?

I think that you’d have to be dumb to make a comment like that about him. If he was asleep at the wheel from a long day at work and lost his life , I really hope you show up again and apologize for your insensitive comments Mr Mililani.

A blood toxicology report would reveal (or not reveal) the presence of drugs and/or alcohol in his system. RIP.

I’m not sure but I think a palm tree was killed in the accident. Bummers.

I wonder what kind of car, and tree. One seems to be stronger than the other.

Sad comments when a man’s life ended in a car crash. He could’ve had a medical condition, there could’ve been mechanical failure. The man could’ve had an emergency he was responding to. Who knows? You or I could be related to the man. RIP. My condolences to the family.

No one will ever know what really happened until an autopsy is performed. Maybe it was a medical like Retiredworking said or a machanical. A human life is lost, have a heart! Rest in peace my brother!

It would seem like he lost control because he fell asleep at the wheel.

I’ll bet it’s the same tree that took out a truck last year. That tree has protected many innocent civilians.

I’m just glad no one from my family was anywhere near this guy that night.
