Prosecutors Thursday charged a 45-year-old man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman in September after representing himself as a law enforcement officer.

Police said Michael Lee Carter, an inmate at Oahu Community Correctional Center, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Chinatown on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping.

Police said the woman reported the man sexually assaulted her and held her against her will 7:20 a.m. Sept. 15 in Honolulu.

Prosecutors charged Carter with those crimes. His bail was set at $500,000.
