MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. >> More than 100 Marines and several helicopters are ramping up the search across rural southeastern North Carolina for a fellow Marine who fell from an aircraft.
Marine Corps spokesman Michael Barton from Air Station Cherry Point says the search resumed Tuesday. The missing Marine is a crew chief from the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing who fell from the Osprey aircraft, which can take off like a helicopter and fly like an airplane.
The aircraft was conducting a training flight Monday evening when the Marine disappeared about 45 miles west of Marine Corps Air Station New River. The Marine’s name hasn’t been released.
Barton says he doesn’t know how high Osprey was or the number of crew aboard at the time of the accident.
