Maui police arrested a 49-year-old Pukalani man running for Maui mayor when he showed up Tuesday for a mayoral debate at Seabury Hall.

Nelson Waikiki Jr., wanted on a warrant for violating conditions of his release on bail, was arrested at 8:59 p.m. on Tuesday, police said.

Waikiki pleaded guilty on April 11 to two counts of securities fraud, a Class A felony.

His bail was set at $100,000.
