Honolulu police closed lanes on the H-1 freeway near the Waimalu exit after a motocycle officer was hit by a car Thursday morning.

A Honolulu Police motorcycle officer was taken to the hospital in good condition after he was hit by a car during a traffic stop on the H-1 freeway near the Kaonohi overpass on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred around 4 a.m. when a car sideswiped the officer and his motorcycle in the Ewa-bound lanes, police said.

Officers arrested the driver of the car, a 22-year-old woman, on suspicion of driving under the influence, fleeing the scene of the accident and failure to make way for an emergency vehicle, police said.

The officer has been with police department for seven years, police said.

He was treated at the hospital and released.
