This composite satellite image shows a line of clouds moving towards Hawaii from the northwest.

Light Kona winds are expected to bring muggy conditions and the possibility of afternoon showers today as a cold front approaches the state.

Forecasters expect heavy rains and gusty winds starting tonight into Wednesday as the front moves over the islands.

The winds will pick up from the southwest this afternoon and will shift to the west and northwest  as the cold front passes on Wednesday.

The southerly winds will also likely blow volcanic haze over Oahu and other islands.

Colder weather and north winds are behind the front. Temperatures in Honolulu should dip into the 50s and low 60s Wednesday and Thursday night.

Forecasters are watching another weather system, which could bring more rain to the islands on Sunday.
