The fire department’s hazardous materials team spent 90 minutes this morning trying to determine the composition of a white substance found by a state worker in one of the offices of the Department of Land and Natural Resources on Punchbowl Street.
Capt. Terry Seelig, Fire Department spokesman, said Hazmat officials responded to the 8:50 a.m. alarm after a worker in DLNR’s land division section found a bag with white powder. It took fire officials, police and deputy sheriffs 90 minutes to evaluate the substance before the an all clear was issued at 10:15 .m.
“Nothing threatening was found,” Seelig said.
The building did not have to be evacuated.
The land division is located at an isolated location on the second floor.
