More than 21,500 runners braved gusty winds to participate in the 29th Annual Great Aloha Run, which kicked off at 7:00 a.m. on Nimitz Highway near the Aloha Tower Marketplace.

"The run is still going on and it’s going very well," said Claire Nakamura, event administrator and coordinator. "The weather has not been a big concern up until the gusts started a few minutes ago and we’ve had no major incidences. Everybody seems happy. The mood is definitely up."

The easterly wind was mostly at the runner’s backs, which may have helped some. It also kept temperatures cool later in the morning.

The run’s finish line is at Aloha Stadium. Nakamura said most participants complete the run by 10:30 a.m.
