President Barack Obama is spending part of New Year’s Eve playing golf with friends on the other side of the island from his Kailua vacation home.

The president chose a warm, sunny day to hit the links at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club in Ewa Beach.

Obama is playing with Punahou School pals Greg Orme, Bobby Titcomb and Mike Ramos.

Earlier in the day, onlookers waved and took photos as Obama’s motorcade left the Kaneohe Marine base after he worked out at the gym.

As the motorcade pulled into the neighborhood where the first family is staying over the holidays, a few people held up signs that said, “Open Cuba. Close Gitmo.”

Thursday is the 13th day of Obama’s annual holiday vacation with his family, which will be wrapping up this weekend.

Also today, the White House released Obama’s vacation reading list.

On his vacation book list are “The Whites” by Richard Price, “Purity” by Jonathan Franzen, “The Wright Brothers” by David McCullough and “The Three Body Problem” by Liu Cixin.

Obama also appears in a video that began airing Wednesday night.

In the video, the president and comedian Jerry Seinfeld compare cars and trade one-liners in a 19-minute episode of “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.”

The episode began airing Wednesday night, and opens with Seinfeld phoning the president. Seinfeld compliments Obama for “cutting all that red tape in Washington” when Obama appears to answer the call directly.

While Seinfeld introduces Obama to a 1963 Corvette Stingray, Obama lets Seinfeld sit in the back seat of the presidential limo, a Cadillac that Obama refers to as “the beast.” Obama says being able to call a nuclear submarine from the car is a cool feature, plus it has seat warmers.

During the course of the show, Obama relishes the thought of some anonymity and describes Teddy Roosevelt as a guy who might be the most fun to hang out with. He says Roosevelt would take a monthlong trip to Yellowstone National Park without anyone knowing where he was.

“Sounds pretty good to me,” Obama said.

“That’s a lot of messages when you get back,” Seinfeld shot back.

The two have some fun at Larry David’s expense. David and Seinfeld co-created the Seinfeld sitcom. At one point, Seinfeld asks how many world leaders are just completely “out of their minds?”

“A pretty sizable percentage,” Obama estimated.

The White House press office noted the show’s release as the president was vacationing in Hawaii.

The show runs on Crackle, a unit of Sony Pictures Television, and can be watched at www.crackle.com .

I wondered why he chose the Hawaii Prince Golf Course when there are nicer courses in the area, but then I realized the layout makes it much easier to provide security. Royal Kunia might have been a better choice because it has a nice view of Pearl Harbor and the Ko’olau mountains.

Obama must have a lot of excess annual leave being a Federal government employee? They told me that I will lose it if I don’t use it at the post office.

This is an AP story. Can’t you get an SA reporter to write a lame story like this? As a “newspaper” you guys are useless. You have a POTUS in your town and you can’t even find a reporter to write a story?

You lapdogs cover for this clown constantly. Why no mention of the fact that during the Seinfeld “interview” zero says “A pretty sizeable percentage” of other world leaders are out of their minds? No other President has ever said anything like that about not just one, but many of his fellow heads of state. And still not asking him about his EO that will take jobs from Americans and give them to non citizens.

It would be nice if the President would take a few minutes of his vacation to have a sit down with our local news reporters, and thank the residents here for hosting him and his entourage every year. We love that they come here, but a little aloha could flow our way too…
