A 28-year-old man with no local address allegedly threatened to shoot a woman in Kapiolani Park yesterday morning, but the incident was broken up by a passer-by, who noticed the altercation and confronted the suspect, police said.

Police said the victim was sitting on a bench at about 10:30 a.m. when the suspect grabbed her and allegedly threatened to shoot her if she screamed. The passer-by confronted the suspect, who fled, police said.

The victim saw the suspect at about 5:45 p.m. and called police who arrested the man on suspicion of kidnapping and harassment at Kuhio Beach Park. He was being held pending further investigation.
