A 44-year-old deputy sheriff was arrested Wednesday in downtown on suspicion of sexual assault.
The arrest was reported at 4:15 p.m. on South King Street. The case has been classified as first-degree sexual assault.
The Department of Public Safety said the deputy sheriff joined the department in September 2001.
Toni Schwartz, department spokeswoman, said the agency will conduct its own internal investigation.
This is the second law enforcement officer arrested for sexual assault this week.
Windward area patrol officer Jessie Laconsay, a 10-year HPD veteran, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. p.m. in Mokuleia for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
No charges have been filed, and the police officer remains hospitalized.
Police issued a CrimeStoppers bulletin Wednesday afternoon with the suspect’s mug shot and description of his car and he was apprehended an hour later. The alleged sexual assault occurred at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Laconsay has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.
He is facing a first-degree sexual assault charge.
What’s up with these guys? Does the oath they took to protect and serve the public mean nothing to them?

Honolulu has a very serious problem with rogue law enforcement. As a female, I do not feel safe here and would not even follow the instructions of any of these stumble-bum officers. Who knows who or what they really are.
Nothing . They are just up to physically fully matured enticing women which our law declares to be considered “under age”.
If they’re under the legal “age of consent”, by definition it’s non-consensual sex — sexual assault at the least, and statutory rape if the act is consummated. There’s a reason for the term “jailbait”, and anyone too intellectually challenged to understand that (or too macho to care) will find out the hard way.

Exactly what is going on. They are the people we go to when something like that happens to us. How are we going to trust any law enforcement officers when they are the ones who is doing the Sexual assaults.
At least both HPD and Sheriff’s are being transparent in the fact they have a few bad apples. 5 years ago this would have been swept under the rug
The bad news is that the people we trust to help and protect us are scum. The GOOD news is that the taxpayers hopefully won’t have to pay these two recent guys any pension and medical benefits after they are FIRED.
I wouldn’t count on that as there is no provision in the Employees Retirement System that an employee would be denied benefits as long as the employee put his time in service….
Agree, at least as a federal retiree(25 years) do not believe there is any provision for denying benefits as it is considered earned up to the time of the infraction. Of course back then aside for law enforcement/fire and air controllers none of the civil servants were represented by the union. Since then things have changed and so have no idea how it works. As for the private sector, have no idea?

I wouldn’t count on that. Not if SHOPO has any say in the matter. All this union does is promote NON-ACCOUNTABILITY and LAW BREAKING. It’s clear that wrongdoing is not only accepted, it’s condoned. And where is the uproar from the Police Commission? WTH are these guys getting paid for?

Why did none of the news sources like Hawaii News Now or this newspaper interviewed Will Espero about this incident….Why was the name of the suspect withheld…..and to question the leadership of the sheriff department….
Maybe the smallest “cranium “, other than the larger one on their shoulders, are employed more than it should because it lacks self-control?
Not in jail yet? Even when an officer commits a sexual crime against a minor, they still seem to get special treatment. Anyone else would be in prison already, slashed wrists and all.
