Police closed off Liliuokalani Avenue in Waikiki while they investigated a shooting Monday night.

Honolulu police are looking for a suspect in the apparent shooting of a 32-year-old woman in Waikiki Monday evening.

According to police, the woman and a friend were walking mauka on Liliuokalani Avenue near the Pacific Beach hotel when they heard a "popping" noise at about 6:30 p.m., officials said. The victim’s friend told police that the victim then turned to her and indicated that she had been shot in the upper torso. The women were able to walk to a nearby hotel for help.

Neither woman was able to identify where or from which direction the single shot may have been fired.

Paramedics took the woman in serious but stable condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, police said.

Police closed Liliuokalani Avenue from Prince Edward Street to Kuhio Avenue as they investigated the scene and canvassed the area for possible witnesses.
