Police officer stops man from taking copper from Nanakuli roof

An alert police officer stopped a 33-year-old homeless man from stealing copper from the roof of a public restroom in Nanakuli.

The officer spotted the suspect atop the roof allegedly attempting to remove the copper flashing beneath the tiles of the roof at 9:34 a.m. on Wednesday, police said.

Police arrested and charged Kinohi Makanani with attempted theft of copper, a Class C felony.

His bail was set at $15,000.
