Honolulu and neighbor island police officers represented by the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers have been awarded a 16.8 percent raise over four years effective July 1.

The award was through binding arbitration between the union and the city.

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell said in a news release today that the wage increase set by arbitration was more than the city anticipated.

Caldwell said at this time, it was unclear how the city and the Honolulu City Council will meet the financial obligation.
