Honolulu police released a security camera image of a suspect in a shoplifting case at the Mililani Golf Club pro shop last month.
Honolulu police are asking for the public’s help in finding a golf club thief.
Police released security camera images and video of the suspect showing him apparently picking up a golf club at the Mililani Golf Club pro shop last month, hiding it in his clothing and walking away without paying.
Police said the incident happened on April 15.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 529-3111 or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cell phone.

This idi*ot is going to regret throwing his life away for a golf club. The court should give him a copy of the video so that he can show it to his family and friends. Then again, they probably have already seen it here.

I doubt this is high up on the list of what will be followed up on and lead to apprehension. “Catch and Release” will be in play. The “Broken Window Theory” will not apply, hence theft incidents like this will continue and perpetrator could have just walked out with the club. Perhaps a reward (just for satisfaction) should be offered by Mililani Golf Pro Shop, however only for “arrest, conviction and incarceration”…otherwise it’s “Catch and Release”.
Addendum to original post. Too bad the public was asked 30-days post incident. Regardless perhaps Mililani Golf Club Pro Shop could provide make, model and serial number of driver (?) that was stolen. Broadcast to the golf courses around town and have them post same information…you may find the golf clubs and the golfing network may result in positive results. Lastly post theft on Craigslist, etc. “Golfer’s Posse”. You can really appreciate this when you have either experience or had a friend’s club(s) “walk away”.

Oh please. We’re being asked to be the Posse for a retail theft? The public is supposed to play loss prevention officers for a golf shoppe? I’d understand it if the dude had driven a new car off the lot, that’d be something worth getting involved. What next, they’re gonna release a video and we’re supposed to be on the lookout for a kid stealing candy from the corner 7-11?
Exactly! Why don’t they release a video of the real thieves in charge of the rail. I’d love to see the video with audio of the negotiations in the secret room and see if any brown envelopes were passed when they sealed the rail project! While the cops concentrate on booking a thief stealing a $50 golf club they won’t bother investigating the mayor and all the big shot crooks that stole $8.1 billion dollars from taxpayers and which plan to steal billions more as they rack up more excuses.

Perhaps you are unaware that a golf driver can retail for $500 which translates to $700 to $1000 gross income. Yeah I wouldn’t mind having a bunch of my buddies and their acquaintances participate in recovering my property. Then perhaps some have more $ than others and could write off the lost…I don’t and I presume there are more that work hard for their discretionary $. In addition, perhaps this individual is making a living of shop lifting and reselling…a chronic petty thief…lot’s of those running around.

First it started with a questionable vote, then it progressed to an estimate of $4.9 billion, then the lies and chronic petty thefts turned into $6 billion, then to $8.1 billion and they still haven’t been arrested. Since there are 949,000 residents, they managed to steal about $8,589 out of every single resident!
How did we get on the subject of the The Rail? Well since we’re now discussing The Rail….personally, I do not support The Rail. O.K. now onto The Election for Mayor…it is going to be laced with a lot of heated rhetoric…all of which may just be what it is…rhetoric!
Thieves are often habitual offenders. This thief, for example, if not caught, will go on to steal from other retailers and even burglarize homes. You may not think it affects you but it does directly or indirectly. Thieves cost you directly in the form of higher prices at the store. And when you are the victim of a burglary yo will know full well its impact on your sense of security of your own home. The kid that steals from a 7-11 may not be serious enough to you but eventually that kid that is not caught will go on to a career of crime. That’s not to say that catching a crook will rehabilitate him but just the fact that he or she is behind bars prevents him or her from victimizing more innocent people. That is why releasing them early negates. Until our politicians realize that certain types of criminals are simply habitual offenders, we perpetuate the revolving door philosophy. They may not seem violent after all they are stealthy criminals but the impact they have on victims of home burglary and even home invasion can be a lifetime scar. Thieves can become violent when being apprehended by residents within their home as those that are attempting to flee a store. Car thieves will wreak havoc on a road in an attempt to escape the police. I am amazed that we do not have a registry to publicly shame these type of criminals. This type of punishment would be ideal for this type of crime as it will make these criminal more exposed to public scrutiny. As a resident, I would like to know if one is living next door to me so that I may be more attentive to him. So, yes, theft is a serious crime that we all should take seriously.
So if theft is not taken seriously by law enforcement then perhaps the only recourse is addressing it in our own way. By the way, I believe that retailers in CA are banding together to have their own form of law enforcement / security due to the increase in shoplifting due to the anything below $950 being a misdemeanor and a lack of interest to go after shoplifters. Stay tuned…
This happened April 15 and only now the video was released to the public?…not so great timing…
Perhaps the thief has already identified and in the process of being arrested as we speak. Hence, the reach out to the public is to draw attention to a this case and then you can circle back and make the public feel good that we all worked together towards closing this case…a great PR strategy. On the back end this will probably end up as another “Catch and Release”…sad.
Why does the police always release these crime videos a month after the incident? Do they really want to catch the thieves or just playing PR so they can fool the public into thinking that the are really trying to solve crimes.
Fortunately, we don’t have too much crime here in Mililani since there are usually police around. I should know…I just got a ticket driving 40 miles an hour on our main street where the limit is 25. The cop was hiding on a side road.
Golf shop employees should be trained to keep an eye out for anyone with long pants who walked in normally, then walks out stiff legged with a limp and doesn’t threaten to sue the shop.
Very nice high-quality video (for once) but I’m slightly puzzled why golf shop employees didn’t notice the guy walking like Festus Haggen from Gunsmoke.
The perp waited for the worker to be busy at the cashier checking in and collecting from golfers. This person looks very confident in what he is doing and watches the cashier intently for his opportunity and exit without blinking an eye. I am quite sure he is an experienced shoplifter of all kinds of stuff. Actually anything that fits under his clothing is fair game. A 46″ golf club with a large head? Wow! He is a Pro!
