A slowing cold front is expected to keep clouds and showers lingering over Kauai and Oahu through the middle of the week, when tradewinds are expected to return, the National Weather Service reported.
Light southeast winds and areas of vog are also expected to persist over the next two or three days. The weather service said windward rainfall could increase by the weekend as a disturbance aloft develops near the islands.
On Sunday, haze and occasional showers persisted over Kauai and Oahu. On Kauai, the Hanapepe transfer station remained closed to greenwaste and scrap metal deliveries due to muddy conditions caused by heavy rains on Saturday.
Forecasters predict variable cloudiness with scattered showers on Oahu Monday. Other areas of the state will experience partly cloudy conditions with isolated showers. Temperatures are expected to reach 80 to 85 degrees, with lows between 67 and 72 degrees.
The summit areas of Hawaii island remain under a high-wind warning through 6 a.m. Monday, with westerly winds of 35 to 45 mph and gusts exceeding 60 mph.
