Residents around Wheeler Army Airfield may get an earful from an exercise that’s scheduled between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday, the Army said.

For the first time in at least a decade, and maybe at all, a four-engine Air Force C-17 cargo jet will land at and take off from Wheeler, the service said.

The Army said the touchdown is part of joint training involving the 25th Infantry Division, the 5th Battlefield Coordination Detachment, and the Air Force’s 15th Wing.

The training is contingent on weather that could impact visibility or safe runway conditions.

The Army said it appreciates the community’s understanding and continued support.

"While sometimes loud, the sounds of training represent how the Army ensures our nation’s soldiers are ready to accomplish their mission and return home safely," the 25th Division said.

To report concerns related to noise or training, call the U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii Noise Concern Line at 656-3487.
