Schofield soldier’s condition improves after H-1 motorcycle crash

A 26-year-old Schofield Barracks soldier, who was speeding and weaving in and out traffic Thursday night on his motorcycle, collided into the rear of a sedan on the H-1 freeway near the University exit and was taken to the hospital, police said.

The accident occurred at 8:09 p.m. And the closure of two lanes of the H-1 eastbound for several hours to allow for a full traffic investigation snarled traffic.

The soldier was initially listed in critical condition, but his status has since been changed to good, police said.

The motorcyclist, driving a 2007 Yamaha, first hit the rear of a 2003 Chevrolet sedan driven by 61-year-old man and then hit the concrete median just before the University exit. Neither the driver of the sedan nor his 57-year-old female passenger needed to be hospitalized, police said.

Police said speed was a factor in the accident.

Another lowlife who selfishly puts others in danger for their own selfish thrills. Would have been better had he died. That way there would be one less threat to my safety on the roads. Well since he’ll live I hope he learns his lesson but I wouldn’t bet on it.

    • mikethenovice says:

Wow! Take it easy, Morimoto. I would be on the moderator watch list if I said that.

      • Morimoto says:

Take it easy? Sure. As soon as those lowlifes endangering my life on the roads take it easy and stop endangering me for their own selfish thrills. I stand by 100% what I originally said.

Morimoto has a point. The problem with out of control military motorcycle riders riding recklessly on Oahu is nothing new and about a decade ago a soldier on a motorcycle actually killed a driver in a car on Nimitz hwy underneath the viaduct. The motorcyclist was going close to 100 mph, T boned an Altima and the impact literally flipped the car upside down. Both rider amd driver were instantly killed by the impact.

  2. lokela says:

Speed kills. He was lucky his time wasn’t up. Stupidity in play here.

  3. mikethenovice says:

Be careful. Grandpa told me that even the monkeys fall from the tree.

  4. mikethenovice says:

Every motorcyclist dream is to recover from a accident and ride the bike again as if nothing happened. No inhibition.

  5. twitter6 says:

At a minimum he should get sued by the victim

  6. bumba says:

I do hope that this soldier faces some drastic consequences for his reckless, thoughtless actions. That being said, I also hope he makes a successful recovery from his injuries, because bottom line, when the chips are down, he’s the one who has to pick up a weapon and defend the rest of us who are home sitting on our behinds commenting on the internet.

    • Morimoto says:

Don’t care what his occupation is, he deserves to die for putting innocent people’s lives in danger for his own selfish thrills. A soldier is the same as a cook, janitor, CEO, attorney, etc. in cases like this. They’re all trash who deserve death.

      • copperwire9 says:

Your ugly mean-spirited comments say as much about you as it does about someone driving recklessly.

        • bumba says:

He just does it to get a reaction. And when you have no one else to talk to, this is the place to vent, I guess.

        • Morimoto says:

Of course it does. It shows I’m ugly and mean-spirited towards those who have no regard for my, or anyone else’s safety on the roads. I have zero tolerance for this behavior. Perfectly justified. Stop making EXCUSES for CRIMINAL behavior. He, and all those like him deserve the die, period, end of story.

  7. copperwire9 says:

He’s very fortunate to be alive. There were mangled metal parts scattered for a loooooong way on the highway.

  8. honomann says:

Can’t wait till he can get back on the road and try again!

  9. AuntyM says:

I hope this person faces some drastic consequences for his reckless, thoughtless actions. I really hate those bikers that weave in and out of traffic thinking they own the road !

  10. lowtone123 says:

While I understand Morimoto’s frustration, I wouldn’t wish him dead. Many military and local driver’s alike drive reckless without understanding the consequences should something go wrong. Hopefully this guy learns his lesson and will never drive like that again. Fortunately no one got killed. It could have turned out much, much worse.

  11. paniolo says:

I guess this soldier didn’t pay attention in traffic safety courses while on base. Learn the hard way.
