The search continued today for a 34-year-old cruise ship worker Grand Princess worker who jumped from the vessel Monday about 1,100 miles northeast of Hilo, Coast Guard officials in Hawaii said.
A second HC-130 Hercules aircraft was launched at first light today from the Coast Guard Barber’s Point Air Station to continue the search.
The Coast Guard said the Grand Princess with a crew of 1,088 and 2,607 passenger, remained in the area to help with the search.
The cruise ship was on the third day of a 15-day voyage to the islands when the Filipino man was reported missing Monday night. The vessel was supposed to dock in Hilo Thursday and make several port calls here before returning to San Francisco on Jan. 19.
Julie Benson, spokeswoman for Princess Cruises of Santa Clarita, Calif., said Tuesday that the cruise ship’s closed circuit video system confirmed that the man jumped from the ship.
In November, the Grand Princess was involved in another overboard incident when a 54-year-old woman jumped from the vessel 650 miles northeast of Hilo. The woman’s body was never recovered. The cruise line declined to released the name of the missing passenger. At the time, the Grand Princess was on day three of a 15-day, round-trip cruise from San Francisco to Hawaii.
