Sewer collapse fouls Kewalo Basin Harbor

Warning signs were posted by the health department Monday after a private sewer collapsed on Ward Avenue, causing sewage to enter a storm drain that empties into Kewalo Basin.

Water samples are being taken by the health department.

The public is advised to remain out of waters near Kewalo Basin Harbor until the warning signs have been removed.

This is the 4th sewer breaking incident in this Kakaako district in recent months. Why does the City keep avoiding this issue? Kewalo Basin stinks.

  2. YOTARE says:

No time to fix our sewers when you’re trying to simultaneously mitigate a rail disaster, an out-of-control addict daughter and a re-election campaign headed for a landslide loss to a GOP geek. Shaking down rail contractors and local banks for money and ducking all the people and unions you owe favors to can be time-consuming, also.

Let me count the ones I recall…….. the street going into Ala Moana Park at Kamakee Street collapsed, water main break in the Ward/ Kapiolani area, effluent overflow at Ala Moana and Atkinson during a storm, several effluent spills in the Ward Ala Moana area, now this, and what other messes we aren’t told about?

  4. Mike174 says:

That’s ok, just build more hi-rise towers there… Why bother improving the infrastructure…

  5. AmbienDaze says:

I bet that private sewer belongs to the Hughes Corp.

  6. richierich says:

Just in time for the WCC attendees to see how Honolulu neglects its infrastructure. I hope they can repair this broken sewer line before a Oahu was bombarded with rians from the two approaching storms.
