South Pacific quake poses no tsunami threat

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake occurred early this morning off of the Pitcairn Islands and Chile but did not result in any reported damage and did not pose a tsunami threat to the Pacific.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake happened more than 2,200 miles south-southwest of Adamstown in the Pitcairn Islands, roughly 2,700 southwest of Punta Arenas, Chile, at 4:18 a.m. Hawaii time.
