HILO >> The state plans to open the Puu Oo area of the Hilo Restricted Watershed to hunters over the next several months to help them control feral cattle.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources said Monday that special access will be granted to one hunter group each Saturday beginning Nov. 16 through March.

Hunters will be selected by lottery at the Division of Forestry and Wildlife Office in Hilo on Oct. 30.

Applications may be obtained online and at division offices in east and west sides of Hawaii island.

The deadline for applications is Friday.

Each group must have at least five licensed hunters and no more than 10 licensed hunters.
