Computer users who tried to access the Hawaii State Library website libarieshawaii.org got this screen instead.

The Hawaii State Public Library System’s website at www.librarieshawaii.org is back online after library staff failed to renew the domain name earlier this week.

“We’ve had some staff changes and this is something that was inadvertently overlooked,” Paul Mark, library spokesman, said.

Computer users trying to access the site on Tuesday went to a godaddy.com template that said the certificate for the web domain had expired on Monday.

Technical support staff restored the domain name and all connections today and the website is operating normally, Mark said.

"We would like to thank our library patrons and the general public for their  patience and understanding during this inconvenience and disruption of our online services," said State Librarian Richard Burns in a news release. "We have implemented changes to ensure that this will not happen again."

The  library system’s website receives about 4,000 visits a day and provides 24/7 access to the library system’s resources and public access catalog.
