A storm that dropped heavy rain on Oahu and Kauai over the weekend is weakening, but may still bring showers to the islands through today.
The storm moved towards Maui County, bringing rain on Molokai Sunday evening.
Forecasters say the system will linger, but won’t pack the same punch as it did on Kauai and Oahu Saturday and Sunday.
Rain, sometimes heavy, fell over much of Oahu Sunday, dropping 2- to 3-inches in some areas, but no major problems were reported.
The forecast for Honolulu calls scattered showers into the evening. Trade winds should return Tuesday, but another front may move in later in the week, bringing Kona winds and showers over the weekend.
Heavy rain from the storm pounded Kauai Saturday into Sunday morning, closing the Hanalei Bridge and the Keapana Bridge in Kapaa for several hours.
The storm downed trees over roads, causing closures until the roads could be cleared.
One lane on the Hanalei Bridge was reopened for contra-flow traffic Sunday morning after rains eased. The Keapana Bride was also reopened.
The Red Cross closed a shelter at 8:30 a.m. that had been opened at Hanalei School at 3:30 a.m. for people displaced by the storm.
In the 24-hour period ending at 5 a.m. Sunday, Mt. Waialeale got 12.2 inches of rain; the Waialua ditch and Waialae recorded 7.4 inches of rain; and Mana, Kilohana and the Mohihi Crossing saw about 6.8 inches.
