Surf rising, advisory posted starting at 6 p.m.

A surfer and bodysurfer are thrown into a cacophony of white water while wiping out on a wave at Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore. One of the first sizable north swells hit the island Monday with waves approaching 12-16 feet in height.
Surf on north shores is expected to build today, reaching advisory levels of 10 to 15 feet tonight, peaking at 18- to 22-feet Friday.
The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory beginning at 6 p.m. tonight through 6 p.m. Friday for north and west shores of Oahu and Kauai County and north shores of Maui and Molokai.
Surf is expected to peak at 12- to 15-feet on west shores.
“Large breaking surf, significant shore break and dangerous currents make entering the water potentially deadly,” forecasters said in an advisory message. “Boaters should be aware of an increased number of surfers and body boarders utilizing the harbor channel to access surfing areas… Heed advice from ocean safety officials and exercise caution.”
