Three Oahu schools given Blue Ribbon designation

The U.S. Department of Education has recognized three Oahu schools for their high performance or for having improved student achievement to high levels.

Ewa Beach Elementary, Momilani Elementary in Pearl City and the Royal School in Honolulu were all named 2010 National Blue Ribbon Schools.

They were among 300 public and private schools across the nation to receive the distinction.

U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye praised the schools for all they’ve achieved while coping with shrinking budgets and school furlough days.

U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka thanked teachers and staff at the schools for their hard work and dedication.

The two Hawaii Democrats announced the recognition in a joint news release yesterday.
