A tip from the public led to the arrest of a suspect in two Ewa Beach bank robberies over the past week, Honolulu police said today.
The 37-year-old man, who has no local address, was booked at 10:20 p.m. Monday at the main police station on suspicion of one count of second-degree robbery. He was re-arrested Tuesday night on a second count of second-degree robbery Tuesday. Charges are pending and he was being held on three contempt warrants, and $20,000 bail for revocation of probation, police said.
Officers located the suspect in a public area in Kalihi on Monday after HPD received a tip from the public, detectives said.
According to police, the man demanded money from a teller at the American Savings Bank at 1401 Fort Weaver Road on Saturday morning. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
