A 27-year-old visitor from Pittsburgh died Friday afternoon in an apparent drowning at Waikapalae Cave in Haena.

According to the Kauai Fire Department, the man has been swimming in the cave, also known as the “Blue Room,” with three other people when he experienced distress and submerged about 3:50 p.m.

Fire rescue personnel responding to a subsequent emergency call retrieved the man’s body at 3:57 p.m.
