Tropical Storm Aletta forms in the Pacific

MIAMI >> Tropical Storm Aletta has formed in the Pacific, becoming the first named storm of the year in the eastern north Pacific.

The storm has maximum sustained winds Tuesday near 45 mph (72 kph). Aletta was expected to start weakening on Wednesday or Thursday.

The storm is swirling far out over the Pacific and is not posing a danger to land. Aletta is centered about 810 miles (1304 kilometers) south-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, and is moving west near 10 mph (16 kph).

The storm’s forecast track shows it going farther out to sea.
